A new take on the Sacre
The idea behind La crasse du tympan is to approach the Rite of Spring in the same way a rock band would create a cover version. Stravinsky’s score, that Jean Cocteau called “indispensable dynamite”, appears today to have been the most resolutely rock’n’roll “sap rising” and “lava flow” of the last century. We want to produce and perform this Rite live, so that the energy of the musicians can spread directly to the dancers and spectators.
However, this new take would also be a remake in the sense of “repair” : we will deconstruct and piece back together many musical as well as choreographic elements of the work, breaking through the linearity of the libretto and the musical partition’s chronology.
